FYSP 168 - Other People, Other Worlds

Semester Offered: First Semester
Credits (Range): 4 hours
Attribute: 4HU, CD, WR
This seminar invites students to think in an informed and critical way about cultural, religious, and historical difference. What can we glean from studying people from other places and times? What skills are necessary to comprehend, say, something about Vedic sacrifice, Tibetan Buddhist cosmology, or the Lakota Ghost Dance? What are the limits of such studies? Our interdisciplinary study will engage us in a variety of sources, including autobiographies, novels, films, and religious scholarship.
Enrollment Limit: 14
Instructor: L. McMillin
Consent of the Instructor Required? Yes
