GEOL 206 - Earth’s Interior: Its Character, Dynamics and Development Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 4 hours Attribute: 4NS Because processes operating deep inside Earth control the shape of Earth’s surface and affect the composition and dynamics of oceans and atmosphere, this course examines geologic and geophysical data pertaining to the character and dynamics of Earth’s interior, analyzes evidence for geochemical differentiation, mantle convection, and plate tectonics, and studies the distribution and character of rock in continents to assess whether Earth’s interior changed over time and how it might change in the future.
