HISP 318 - Survey of Latin American Literature II This course may also count for the major in (consult the program or department major requirements) : Latin American Studies, Comparative Literature Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3HU, CD A panoramic approach to names, texts and contexts, issues, and situations originating within a Latin American frame vis-à-vis Europe and the US. The signs “literature” and “culture” provide the excuse for a trip through time and geography: the “Latin” or “Hispanic” or “Spanish” portion of the American continent, mostly in the 20th century. Issues: politics and aesthetics, imperialism/colonialism, nation formation, the “modern” making of the “Third World,” the canon, high culture vs. pop culture. Taught in Spanish.
