HIST 282 - The Invention of Asia This course may also count for the major in (consult the program or department major requirements) : East Asian Studies Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3SS, CD Examines the contact Europeans and Americans have had with Asian societies and peoples from antiquity to modern times and how they ‘invented’ a variety of Asias. Key questions include: How do these conceptions of Asia reflect on Westerners’ changing attitudes toward their own societies and on historical and intellectual developments in the modern West?
