RELG 235 - Chinese Thought & Religion Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3HU, CD A historical survey of Chinese thought and religion from the mists of prehistory to the encounter with modernity. The course will focus on the “three teachings”—Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism—as well as popular religiosity and sectarian movements, with a special focus on their interaction and mutual influence. The course will examine Chinese conceptions of the universe and humanity’s place in it, situating them politically and socially through readings in a variety of genres.
