RELG 317 - Selected Topics in Medieval Christianity: Augustine of Hippo Next Offered: 2011-2012 Semester Offered: Second Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3HU Augustine is one of the most influential and controversial figures in the history of Christianity. This seminar will require close reading of primary sources from various stages of Augustine’s career and secondary sources illuminating the context in which Augustine lived and wrote. Attention will be given to the major themes of Augustine’s writings, the polemical contests through which these themes emerged, and the ever-contentious Augustinian legacy.
