RELG 329 - Hindu Epic Narrative in Indian Theater Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 hours Attribute: 3HU, WR, CD An overview of Hinduism’s two preeminent epics–Ramayana and Mahabharata–as recited, retold, mimed, danced, and acted in Indian classical theater and regional folk forms. Looks at puppet productions, ensemble dance-dramas such as Kathakali and Yakshagana, and open-air spectacles such as the Ramlila. Readings include Sanskrit dramas and ethnographic studies of folk theater, supplemented by electronic recordings of actual performances.
