FYSP 091 - Anonymous Identities: Membership and Community in Alcoholics Anonymous Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 4 hours Attribute: 4HU, WR Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) membership involves a conversion from one form of life to a profoundly different form of life. This course engages in an interdisciplinary examination of this conversion itinerary through a careful study of member biographies, testimonials, public talks, diaries, and group literature. We will examine classic questions connected with alcoholism and addiction such as free will, the nature of disease, collective versus individual identity, and technologies of self-improvement.
