A moral person is usually said to be the bearer of rights. Typical adult human beings are usually considered moral persons. What, though, is the moral status of sophisticated animals? Of brain-damaged human beings, of fetuses, or of potential persons? What are the implications of views of the value of these beings for our treatment of animals, for euthanasia, for abortion, and even for duties to future people?
