AAST 272 - Great Musical Thinkers in the African American Tradition Semester Offered: First Semester Credits (Range): 3 Hours Attribute: 3HU, CD This course is and in-depth exploration into the musical life expressions and cultural aesthetics of John Coltrane, Eric Doplhy, Yusef Lateef, Ornette Coleman and other great contributors to the continuum of the African-American improvisational tradition. Each are multi-instrumentalists who have created specialized music. Focus will be on their regions of origin, migrations, communal interactions, their inspirations and influences of those who helped shape their musical philosophies.
