ENGL 408 - Senior Seminar: Modern Realism

Guided by recurring questions, students will examine realism as a fundamental intention in the modern novel: What is most essential in realism as a cognitive and literary approach? How does realism relate to politics and the larger social milieu? What about realism as writing (i.e., realism after structuralism and post-structuralism)?  How does realism change over time and as it circulates beyond its European origins? The class will raise provocative questions about art, society and reality. Diversity, Post-1900.
