We will survey post-war British fiction by looking at two of its most productive and insightful elements: Black British and working class writers (the latter dubbed “angry young men” by the British press). This optic will frame our reading of both widely celebrated authors (such as Naipaul) and others who have built their oeuvres nearer the margins of literary culture (Ballard, Selvon, Sillitoe, the dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson).
