This course examines intersections between global health and politics from an anthropological perspective, focusing on “encounters” in three areas – humanitarianism, medicine and public health. Key questions include: How do past experiences of exploitation impact contemporary health inequalities, policies and practice? What narrative and representational strategies are deployed to legitimate certain responses to global health problems? Case studies include various geographical sites.
