APST 142 - Beginning Improvisation Semester Offered: Spring Semester Credits (Range): 2 Hours Attribute: CNDP Intended for beginning improvisers or those with only limited experience in improvisation, this class will introduce techniques and concepts that cultivate the development of basic improvisational skills: Melodic embellishment, outlining chords with melody, melodic transformation, developing vocabulary, strategies for ear training and strengthening theoretical knowledge. This class is not genre specific; examples of common practices in a variety of styles and genres will be studied. Prerequisites: Open to all instrumentalists and vocalists in majors other than jazz.
