BIOL 403 - The Cell of Biology of Pathogen-host Interactions Semester Offered: First Semester Full Credits: 4 Credits Attribute: 4NS, QFR, WADV
Bacterial pathogens frequently manipulate the cells of their eukaryotic hosts in order to infect them and then spread to a new host cell or oganism. We will use readings from the primary literature to examine the molecular mechanisms by which this occurs and the methods for studying such effects. Topics may include the effects of cholera, botulism and pathogenic E. coli on host cell signaling, membrane trafficking and the cytoskeleton. Student presentations will alternate with class discussions. Students will also write several papers analyzing research from the primary literature. Enrollment Limit: 14 Instructor: L. Romberg Prerequisites & Notes Pre-requisites: Biology 213.
