Through readings of medieval and Golden Age poetry, drama and prose, this course will explore the social construction and artistic representation of gender in early modern Spain, focusing primarily on efforts to impose or to resist specific roles assigned to men and women in early Spanish culture and society. Authors may include Santa Teresa, Cervantes, María de Zayas, Tirso de Molina, Ana Caro, Sor Juana and Lope de Vega, among others. Taught in Spanish.
