This course focuses on twenty-first century Spanish and Latin American horror cinema, gothic and neo-gothic aesthetics, representations of evil, social monsters, and zombie-outbreak narratives. We will study a selection of ten films from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and Uruguay, including La casa muda (2010), REC (2007), El páramo (2011), and Kilómetro 31 (2006). “Deadly Forces” covers readings in contemporary filmmaking, moral and ethical criticism, and horror theory. (Taught in Spanish)
