PHIL 315 - Seminar: Causation

Semester Offered: Second Semester
Full Course
Credits: 4 Credits
Attribute: 4HU

One central question in both metaphysics and the philosophy of science is: What is it for one thing to cause another? We will look at regularity, counterfactual, probabilistic, and process theories of causation, amongst others, and pay special attention to some of the newest work on the topic. Along the way, we will become happily entangled in questions about explanation, laws of nature, modality, and properties. We may also think about the nature of mental causation.
