In this course you will learn to play village-style talempong from West Sumatra that features interlocking drums and kettle gongs.
No prior musical experience is necessary. By the end of the class, however, student will have gained a basic understanding of how the music is constructed, along with cultural matters specific to its performance. Throughout the semester students will be encouraged to take turns on all the different instruments but work towards ensemble rather than individual expression for a final performance.
