HISP 413 - Rise of the Antihero: The Picaresque Tradition in Spain and Beyond Semester Offered: First Semester Full Course Credits: 4 Credits Attribute: 4HU, CD, WADV
Picaresque literature has played an important role in shaping artistic production since its rise in early modern Spain. Examining the proliferation of the picaresque in the seventeenth century, students will explore both relevant precursors and the continuing influence of the picaresque in modern literature and film while reflecting on topics including the idea of the hero, realism in art, and the rhetoric of self-representation, from the Lazarillo and Cervantes to Fight Club.
