A survey of the intersection of art and physics, broadly defined. Focusing primarily on visual art, each week we study a different juxtaposition of art and physics. Examples include: conformal mappings and the drawings of M.C.Escher, radiocarbon dating and prehistoric cave paintings, quasicrystals and tiling patterns in Islamic art, special relativity and abstract art of the 20th century. Additionally, for the final project, students will present the art/physics juxtaposition of their choosing.
