MHST 226 - Music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance Semester Offered: Second Semester Full Course Credits: 4 Credits Attribute: CNDP, DDHU
A survey of church and court music from the early Middle Ages to 1600. The course will consider the forging of Western musical traditions within the context of medieval liturgy and the ensuing growth of a variety of genres—music which richly expresses Romanesque other worldliness, the ideals of courtly love, Gothic rationalism, the blossoming of the individual in the Renaissance, and the mystical fervor of the Counter Reformation. Enrollment Limit: 30 Instructor: S. Plank Consent of the Instructor Required: No Prerequisites & Notes MHST 101 or CMUS 100.
