How are unruly bodies depicted, disciplined, and celebrated in medieval English literature? What are the conventions, if any, against which physical, political, and textual bodies are read? We will consider these questions by reading works by Geoffrey Chaucer, Margery Kempe, and Thomas Malory, as well as such anonymous works as Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, mystery plays, and lyric poems.
