This course explores the immensely varied history of Africa between 16,000 BCE and 1800 CE. Themes and topics include how people in Africa mastered and used the environments in which they lived; the historical roots of Africa’s great cultural diversity; and how Africans organized their societies in different periods and places in the face of shifting historical circumstances including evolutions in agriculture & technology, social, economic, & political institutions, as well as trade & commerce.
