HISP 318 - Survey of Latin American Literature II: The “Bad” Life This course may also count for the major in (consult the program or department major requirements) : Latin American Studies, Comparative Literature Semester Offered: First Semester Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU, CD
Historically, the “good” life has been constituted through negative operations: proscription, prosecution, condemnation. Yet, what is proscribed, prosecuted and condemned changes constantly, leaving behind a telling archive. This course uses the “bad life” as an entry-point into Latin American cultural production of the 19th, 20th, and 21st century, and analyzes the literary and cultural operations through which important texts in the tradition have proscribed, prosecuted, and condemned-or performed, and celebrated-the bad life. Taught in Spanish. Enrollment Limit: 20 Instructor: S. Gutiérrez-Negrón
