In this course we will explore issues that arise in developing a philosophy of morality. Considering approaches by philosophers like Plato, Hobbs, Butler, Hume, and Kant, and by more recent thinkers like G.E. Moore, Charles Stevenson, John Rawls, and Allan Gibbard, we will explore some important ethical theories and examine concepts like subjectivity and objectivity, rationality and self-interest, and the nature of morality. (V) Enrollment Limit: 30 Instructor: O. King Prerequisites & Notes Prerequisite: Three hours in philosophy.
