A survey of Marxian theory from Marx and Engels to the present. Following an in-depth study of Marx and Engels, we proceed to leading Marxist thinkers and political activists of the early 20th century: Bernstein, Luxemburg, Kautsky, Lenin and Gramsci. Finally we briefly take up critical theory, Marxian feminism, and Marxian environmentalism. The course includes two lectures and weekly one small discussion groups each week. Written work consists of two take-home, open-book essays and weekly blogs.
