Focusing on Europe, but addresssing art of the United States, this course serves as an introduction to the movements of Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, and Neo-Impressionism, and offers a close consideration of how artists navigated relationships of collective and individual; center and periphery; gender, race, and class; political crisis and revolution; and landscape and industry in the changing world of modernity. A field trip is required.
