HIST 910H - London, England, Britain: National Identities and Their Discontents Semester Offered: Second Semester Half Course Credits: 2 Credits Attribute: 2 SS
This course will use historical, literary, museological, and archival approaches to examine the formation of national identity/identities in the UK, focusing on the ways that London, England, and Britain present different (often conflicting) definitions of the nation. The course will make full use of London as a site of documentation and testimony. It will also draw on visits by cultural studies scholars, writers, and filmmakers who have reflected on all the categories - London, England, and Britain - at length. British, Post-1900. Field trips required. Students should register for this course in conjunction with ENGL 910F. Enrollment Limit: 25 Instructor: S. Volk, A.
