This course focuses on all of the practical aspects of starting a professional artist-run ensemble. Students will learn about current practices in developing an online presence, cultivating and maintaining audience members, fundraising and grant writing, crafting a mission statement, creating a press kit, writing a press release, fiscal sponsorship vs nonprofit status, collaborative work, performance and presentation considerations, booking concerts and tours, and aspects related to recording an album. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of materials for their ensemble and a solid foundation to build from as professional chamber musicians.
