This class will trace the development of human civilization in Africa from ‘Lucy’ to the European Age of Exploration in the 15th and 16th century. The Sahara desert will be used as a centerpiece for connecting not only West, East, and North African experiences, but also connecting these experiences with Mediterranean, Islamic and Indian Ocean regions.
