A study of many of Shakespeare’s comedies, from the cross-dressed and festive to the darkly ironic. Themes include love, sex, gender, friendship, marriage, family, magic, transformation, transgression, ingenuity, cruelty, forgiveness, coming of age, and a good dose of wit. Likely plays: Love’s Labors Lost, Merchant of Venice, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure, Pericles, The Winter’s Tale. British, Pre-1700. Enrollment Limit: 25 Instructor: W.
