Despite a widespread narrative of decline, Japan’s visionaries endure as creative as ever. This seminar will explore the phenomenon of future-oriented projects and plans for living, some mundane and some fantastical, some already realized and some confined to cyberspace. The relevance of popular cultural forms like manga, anime, and games will be examined, as well as earlier architectural and urban planning influences. Content will be derived from published works, media, and the virtual universe.
