ARTS 070 - Problems in: Painting, Narrative and the Contemporary Figure

In the absence of shared and defined political and religious narratives how do contemporary artists use the formal language of painting to tell a story that people can understand. Students will study traditional and contemporary narrative painting and learn through works of art and assignments how to use composition, light and color to communicate stories and create a passage of time on a flat surface. Students must have completed one course in drawing and painting, and have some experience working in oils and from a live model before enrolling.
