FYSP 168 - Other People, Other Worlds Semester Offered: Fall Semester 2019 Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU, WINT
This seminar invites students to think in an informed and critical way about the study of other cultures. What can we glean from studying people from other places and times? What skills are necessary to comprehend, say, something about Vedic sacrifice, Tibetan Buddhist cosmology, or the Lakota Ghost Dance? How can we understand these ‘worlds’? What are the limits of such studies? Our interdisciplinary study will engage us in a variety of sources, including autobiographies, novels, films.
