FYSP 170 - Language in Motion Semester Offered: Fall Semester 2019 Full Course Credits: 4 credits Attribute: 4HU, WINT
How do we thread the elusive experience of moving through the needle of language to articulate our embodied knowledge? We will explore this question by interweaving guided movement and writing exercises that deepen our ability to translate corporal experiences into words. Course readings will focus on: how authors describe characters’ embodied sensations and movement through fictional worlds; texts, metaphors, and images choreographers use to create and trace dance; the moving body as archive; the dancer trope in philosophy; and recent breakthroughs in neuroscience about communication through gesture.
