This course explores contemporary issues in Japanese culture through significant cinema, anime, J-pop, literature, and other subcultural works. How do these works narrate the desire for community (national or global, real or imagined), the desire for social change, the desire for technology, the desire for desire? How has anime and digital fandom revolutionized our relationship with art and our interactions with one another?
