The Oberlin Sonny Rollins Jazz Ensemble is an endowed project made possible by the donation of Sonny Rollins. Oberlin jazz majors are accepted into the “Sonny Ensemble” at the point of matriculation at Oberlin or after annual auditions held before the jazz faculty. The group will develop ensemble-playing skills and perform in various settings but also build character through community service. Members of the ensemble complete a non-music service project and perform as part of the touring ensemble during Winter Term.
