POLT 328 - Seminar: Pirates, Priests and Protestors: Non-state Actors in International PoliticsMode(s) of Instruction: Hybrid FC SSCI WADV 4 credits Non-state actors have long influenced international politics through the use of violence, the creation of norms, and the production of wealth. How do contemporary non-state actors challenge states, or reinforce state capacity? How do they influence power relations, norm building and policy making? The course examines the evolution of a range of non-state actors, including transnational advocacy networks, NGOs, transnational corporations, private security providers, and militant armed groups. This seminar is intended for students who are juniors or seniors and priority is given to Politics majors. Prerequisites & Notes: At least one international relations course.
