FC SSCI
4 credits
This course examines the politics of race in America, with a particular focus on investigating the state of racial politics during and after the Obama presidency. Among other questions, this course will ask: What are the roots of race, racism and racial inequality in the U.S.? What does racism look like today and how does this differ from racism of the past? How does race and racism impact American elections and policymaking? Does the Democratic Party take black voters for granted? How can racial minorities enhance their political representation? How do multiracial individuals and the intersectionally marginalized fit into our understanding of racial politics? Are there limits to the impact of linked fate or group consciousness?
