CINE 290 - Introduction to the Advanced Study of CinemaMode(s) of Instruction: Hybrid FC ARHU WINT 4 credits This course focuses on ways to engage critically with cinema. We examine elements of film form, style, and technique and explore how these produce meaning. Through theoretical and critical readings we consider cinema as art, industry, technology, and politics. We also study approaches to watching and assessing movies, concepts and contexts in cinema studies as a discipline, and film in relation to other media. We also pay special attention to writing about cinema. Prerequisites & Notes: Students should have completed a Writing Intensive course or gained Writing Certification in any course in the humanities. Requirements can be waived with instructor consent. This course is cross-listed with ENGL 291
