REES 107 - Russian History IMode(s) of Instruction: Hybrid FC SSCI CD 4 credits An introductory survey of Russian history from the earliest times to the mid-19th c. Beginning with an overview of the Kievan Rus and the Mongol overlordship, we will explore the diverse influences of the steppe, Orthodox Christianity, and `the west’ on the nature of the Muscovite and Imperial Russian state, the relationship between state and society, the formation of national and imperial identities, and dominant cultural values. Prerequisites & Notes: Counts towards the History major and the REES major. This course is cross-listed with HIST 107
