ENGL 223 - Meaning and BeingFC ARHU WINT 4 credits A survey of prominent literary works of the 1800s, emphasizing close reading and giving special attention to the concept of ‘Nature.’ The reading list will be centered around Moby-Dick, which appeared in the middle of the century and features tangled relations between meaning and being, self and other. American, 1700-1900. Prerequisites & Notes: Students should have completed a Writing Intensive course or gained Writing Certification in any course in the humanities.
