POLT 279 - American Presidency & Presidential PowerFC SSCI 4 credits This course examines the U.S. Presidency in contemporary American politics, with a particular focus onpresidential power in the late 20th and early 21st Century. We look at how presidential powers have evolved since the founding by investigating the constitutional tools of the office, individual leadership styles, and its influence over public opinion and other branches of government. We evaluate the role that the modern electoral system, presidential personalities, transitioning and organizing the White House, the relationship with the press and public, the relationship between the three branches, and polarization have on presidential influence. Finally we will consider, the position and power of the presidency under the leadership of President Donald Trump.
