ENVS 215 - Introduction to Indigenous Peoples and the EnvironmentFC SSCI CD 4 credits Indigenous peoples thrive today despite repeated attempts by Euro-Americans to destroy, assimilate, marginalize, distort, appropriate, or ignore them. The course introduces students to the indigenous peoples of North America, their lands, natural resources, and their expressive cultures. We cover historical and contemporary topics in a cross-cultural perspective. Among other topics, we study the foundational beliefs underlying indigenous relationships with animals and their environments, place-making, sacred geographies, and epistemologies.
