GERM 354 - Dirty Talk: fin de si CD 2 credits This course looks at four key works that outline progressive views of sexuality and adolescence during the fin de sile period (1880-1910) and early film of the Weimar era: Frank Wedekinds Spring Awakening (Frlings Erwachen), Arthur Schnitzlers Round Dance (Reigen), Schnitzlers Dream Story (Traumnovelle), and G.W. Pabsts Diary of a Lost Girl. Each work depicts the breadth of society and its issues and interweaves within each a critique of what society fails to acknowledge and fails to comprehend. All of these works were considered controversial (and even banned) by contemporaneous society. Course will be taught in English.
