GSFS 216 - Gender and Public Health: Feminist Approaches to Theory and PracticeFC SSCI CD 4 credits This course brings public healththe practice of preventing disease and promoting good health within groups of people, from small communities to entire countriesinto conversation with gender, sexuality, and feminist studies. Since both are interdisciplinary fields, we will draw on a range of literatures including health policy, epidemiology, education, feminist science studies, and medical sociology as we question stable categories of gender and health. Students will complete self-directed case studies on topics of their choice, which may include topics such as sex education, the medicalization of childbirth, environmental health, HIV/AIDS, substance use and abuse, and sex work.
