This course examines the fundamental sociopolitical tension resulting from the discrepancy between democratic ideals and democratic practice in the US. Through an in-depth study of three themesgender, race, and the War of Terrorwe will closely analyze the gap between the democratic system of government we imagine ourselves to have, and the reality of historical and contemporary discrimination, exclusion, and curtailment of rights.
