HIST 255 - KurosawaHC CD 2 credits Description (max 100 words not counting grading notes or Field trip(s) required; the box will expand as you type): This second module course will explore the ways in which Director Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998) portrayed Japanese history on film. To understand Kurosawas approach of holding up a mirror to Japanese societythroughout the agesand its quandaries, emphasis will be on both the films and their depiction of historical realities. Films under consideration span Kurosawas almost five-decade long-career and include The Men Who Step on the Tigers Tail, Ikiru, High and Low, Kagemusha, and Madadayo.
Prerequisites & Notes: Weekly film screenings.
