HIST 223 - Modern Korean History

Since the early Middle Ages Yiddish had been intimately interwoven into Jewish life and closely involved in the evolution of Jewish religious practices, customs and folkways. Yet the emergence of modern Yiddish culture was highly contested, and the students will discuss the vicissitudes of modern Jewish identity and internal debates about the future of the Jewish people. The course contents include readings (in English translation) of modernYiddish literature, thought, theater and cinema.
